From live sports play-by-play, to social media, to sports talk, to blog and real-time micro blogging, the following individuals help lead the KUGR Sports team.
Brandon Chapman
General Manager/Reporter
In addition to providing financial and personnel oversight, as well as advice to the Sports Team, “Chappy” has a wealth of play-by-play and sports talk experience, having done multiple seasons of professional baseball.
Davis Hagen
Assistant Director/Broadcaster
In just his first year with KUGR, Davis became one of the station’s lead play-by-play broadcasters, doing every sport and doing it well. One highlight was his trip to Omaha to broadcast WSU men’s basketball during March Madness.
Josiah Frank
Assistant Director/Broadcaster
Josiah is a good play-by-play broadcaster, but he add analyst chops to go with it, having played sports at a high level before WSU. His pedigree includes his own dad who played on Washington’s national champion team in 1991.
E. Bryz-Gornia
Broadcaster/Reporter
Simply known as “B-G”, the incoming WSU junior has been a mainstay of KUGR productions. This includes broadcasting football road games, and the Pac-12 men’s tournament in Las Vegas in 2023. B-G has also been heavily involved in Cable 8 Productions, hosting a variety of shows.
Norma Fulwiler
Broadcaster
In only her first year at WSU, Norma proved herself an on-air force to be reckoned with, covering every sport that the station broadcasts. Since that time, Norma has traveled to Las Vegas to broadcast the Pac-12 women’s basketball tournament, as well as continually take part in a number of WSU events.
Nathan Eshelman
Broadcaster
A senior multimedia journalist from Gig Harbor, he is in his first (and last) year with KUGR. He wants to pursue a career sports journalism with his favorite sports being the big three: football, basketball, and baseball. His dream job is to broadcast for the Seattle Seahawks, folloing the steps of Steve Raible.
Smith Slye
Broadcaster
From the first day he stepped on campus, Smith (yes, that’s his first name!) has been a veritable broadcasting force. The sophomore is co-lead of the WSU Hockey broadcasts, doing both home and road games. He has also done a ton of other sports. His WSU highlight thus far was taking Chappy’s sports play-by-play class in Spring 2025.
Connor Simmons
Broadcaster
The other half of the “hockey twins” with Smith Slye, Sophomore Connor is co-lead broadcaster for WSU Hockey. As you can tell from his photo, he’s not really as cool as he thinks he is. His favorite class at WSU was Chappy’s sports play-by-play. He is also a key component of Cable 8 on campus and has discovered he’s a good actor.
Bailey Peffer
PR Director/Reporter
A fixture at several collegiate events, Bailey oversaw many of the social media duties, including pre-event communications, in-game micro-blogging, and general buzz. Splitting time with others throughout the year, the baseball season was pretty much hers and hers alone. Bailey has also started her TV news career.
D. Gabriel Rodriguez
Outreach Director
Gaby Rodriguez has poured his heart and soul into the next generation of our nation’s youth, including WSU students. Contextualizing the whole experiential learning for students, Gaby helps KUGR reporters produce news and packages that have meaning beyond simply the box scores.
Davis Nelson
Consultant/Content Creator
A former Coug, after David was honorably discharged from the United States Military, he wrote for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. But now he just gives back to the WSU community, especially to KUGR, providing consultation, as well as content creation, at no cost. He embodies the phrase Cougs helping Cougs.
Kellan Hessler
Chief Baseball Producer/Analyst
Kellan played college baseball before becoming an analytics expert, which he uses in his full-time career. He gives back to the university, especially KUGR Sports, through pro bono radio producing of baseball-related content. He’s produced pieces that have shown up in multiple mid- to large-market stations.
