Station History

Established in 1954, KUGR was the go-to station at Washington State
University as the radio waves were wired into every building on campus. In the
mid-1970s, we gained a FM signal and became the only rock and roll station on the
Palouse as KUGR 95.1 Rock. Today, you can hear student created content from
morning tonight live on kugr.org.

In 2014, the KUGR Board of Directors invested in brand new broadcast
equipment to keep the station running smoothly and created a new logo to help the
station rebrand. In September, one of the buildings of the communication complex was
renamed after KUGR alum, Keith Jackson, who is best known for being the
first play-by-play announcer on Monday Night Football on ABC.

In 2015, we will be submitting our best recordings to College Broadcasters Inc. (CBI) to
compete on a national level for the first time.
